Luke Simmons

Lead Pastor
About Luke

I’ve been married to Molly since 2001. We have three daughters, Abby, Caitlin and Mary and one son, Hank. We like to laugh, play, swim, watch football, and learn.

Without Jesus, my life has been marked by arrogance, selfishness, and pride. I took pride in my morality and looked down on others who didn’t seem as good as me. God took ahold of my life through a neighbor who invested in my life as a 17 year old and challenged me to read the book of John with him, where I encountered who Jesus really is. Jesus is my treasure because he rescued me from the guilt, shame and punishment of sin that I deserve and he gave me new life in him. He is the King of kings and I want to live for him. Jesus is changing my life now by allowing me to see that I never outgrow my need for him. I am more sinful than I ever dared believe, and more loved and accepted by Jesus than I ever dared hope.

I graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.A. in Speech Communication, where I played baseball and married the prettiest girl on the swim team. I also have an M.A. in Missional Theology from Covenant Theological Seminary, in partnership with the Missional Training Center in Tempe, AZ.

Seth Troutt

Associate Pastor, Ministries
About Seth
I have been married to Taylor since 2013. We have one son, Jay, and two dogs named Calvin and Herman. We like going on walks around our neighborhood (especially when we leave the dogs at home).
If you would have met me in high school or college you would have met one of the most destructively self-righteous people you have ever known. God placed faithful pastors into my life who graciously, yet firmly, called me on my pride and moralism; I knew about the gospel of grace, but internally I was living out of a gospel of moral conformity and intellectual supremacy that led simultaneously to insecurity and arrogance. The gospel — that the kingdom of God has come near in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus — has again and again and again shown me how good, gracious, glorious, and great the Lordship of God really is.
I am a graduate of Arizona State University, have a Master of Divinity in Biblical Communication from Phoenix Seminary, and am working on a doctorate degree at Covenant Theological Seminary. Before coming onto Redemption Gateway’s staff in 2016, I served at Grace Community Church in Tempe for seven years.

Matthew Braselton

Associate Pastor, Operations
About Matthew

I married my wonderful wife Kristie in 2001, and we are blessed with 5 crazy kids: Bethany, Harper, Benjamin, Judah, and Shiloh.

God graciously saved me at a very young age, and the faith of my youth carried me through some very difficult times in my family growing up. Through high school and college, God continued to grow me as he tried, tested, and refined my faith and knowledge of Him. I have been serving in ministry since 1998, and vocationally since 2004. God continues to show me more and more of my sin as I mature in Him, but He also shows me more and more of Himself and His grace that covers me, for which I am eternally grateful!

I have a B.A. in Finance and an M.B.A. from Arizona State University, as well as an M.A. in Missional Theology from Covenant Seminary, in partnership with the Missional Training Center.

Cristina Adams

Operations Manager
About Cristina

I married my high school sweetheart, Clay, in 2002.  We have been blessed with two handsome boys, Jacob and Joshua.

I currently help support the leadership team with daily administrative tasks and coordinate events within our congregation and community.

God has always been patient with me and I have always been impatient with Him. I had a stubborn heart and felt I could do better by controlling my future. I was invited to church in 2008 and I was skeptical of what I was going to encounter. I was overwhelmed by the spirit and energy of God’s presence in the worship center and asked for His forgiveness. Immediately, I jumped into God’s word and I grew increasingly impatient that God did not show Himself right away to me. Out of rebellion and anger, I stopped attending and returned to my old ways. Several years later, a friend recognized I needed help and invited me to service at Redemption Gateway. That day, the spirit filled my heart and made me realize, that this is where I needed to be. My heart has been softened and my mind has been opened to receive the gospel. God has shown me new life because I started to trust Him. I can now see God’s work on a daily basis and I hope to share the good news with those like me.

John Kronwald

Redemption Communities Pastor
About John

I am so blessed to be married to my long-time friend and high-school sweetheart, Lindsay. We have four kids: Jack, Emma, James, & Kate. We play hard and laugh often!

I’m so thankful to have been raised by parents that loved Jesus deeply. Growing up in the church, I had many people teaching me the truths of God week after week. God used all of those influences in the home and in the church to grab a hold of my heart at a young age. By the time I finished high school I really saw my relationship with Jesus deepen. I began to own my faith and live it out even when it was costly. God used (and continues to use) people and circumstances to refine me, stretch me, and grow me more and more into the image of his Son.

Jodi Cherney

Redemption Communities Associate Director
About Jodi

I have been married to my husband Kyle since 2010. We have a daughter named Chloe and a high-energy dog named Finn.  I love to spend time outside, bake, and play piano.

I grew up in a Christian family in western Michigan and was surrounded by Christ-like people who lovingly invested their time in me. As I got older, I started to understand the depths of my sin, and along with it, the overwhelming span of God’s grace and power to renew and redeem all of creation. On my own, I desire control over my life and I fear the unknown. However, the Holy Spirit is continually refining me, teaching me, and helping me to rely on Him.

I assist John Kronwald, the Redemption Communities Pastor, with supporting our group leaders and connecting people to Redemption Communities.

Mary McGonegle

Next Steps Coordinator
About Mary

I have been married to my best friend and man of my dreams since 1992. God has blessed us with 2 children, Megan 25 and Sean 23.

I was a young child of 5 years old when I began attending church. Although my family did not go themselves, my mother would take me and drop me off every week at our neighborhood church for Sunday School. God was not a part of my everyday life at home, and home life was sometimes full of chaos. I quickly learned to enjoy being at church, it was a warm and loving environment, and I also quickly fell in love with Jesus. I continued at that same small church until I graduated from high school and it was there I became a Christian and was baptized. The passion I have for the Lord now in my life stems all the way back to when I was that young child, and I still pursue Jesus with all that I have. I have a strong desire to help others find a place within our church family and to have a relationship with Jesus. I have taken my passion into many different ministries over the years and have worked with children, high schoolers, young adults, women and couples.

I am very excited about my new role here at Redemption, it does really feel like the perfect fit to be the Next Step Coordinator. I am helping people make the those next steps in becoming involved at our church.

Mark Andress

Care Pastor
About Mark

I married my wife Patti in May of 2006, and we have five absolutely crazy but totally awesome kids: Sophie, Brennan, Ashlyn, Kinley, and Piper.

I grew up in and around church, but had wandered away from the Lord after our family had suffered through some pretty traumatic events at our church. During my senior year of high school, God called me to himself, and for the first time I began to see that behind everything I had gone through, there was God who loved and cared for me deeply – a God who had suffered for me and therefore I could trust in the midst of my own suffering.

As I grew in my understanding of God’s grace and love, I became more deeply involved in different church ministries like music, missions, and discipleship. Over time, God created a desire in me to move in care and compassion toward those who are hurting, and to help teach and lead others in the church to do the same.

Vicki Diemert

Counseling Director
About Vicki

Matt and I have been married since 1998. We have 4 kids, Miriam, Elijah, Eden and Micah. We are native to the mid-west. I grew up in Michigan and then moved to Minnesota, where I met and married Matt. We moved to Arizona in 2000.

I grew up going to church, but it wasn’t until a college ministry that I truly understood salvation. Ever since then I have been ever learning and growing in my faith. I’ve had a social work heart ever since middle school. I graduated from the University of MN with a degree in Family Social Science. I had the amazing privilege to work with special needs children and their families in a variety of settings. In 2010 I began taking counseling classes from CCEF (Christian Counseling Education Foundation). The classes were paradigm shifting for me in how I viewed and related to God and His Word. After finishing all 3 certificate levels, I decided to continue on and I graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2015 with a Masters in Biblical Counseling. I have been counseling and teaching and training ever since.

It is an honor and privilege that I don’t take lightly that I would get to walk with someone in their pain. It is also a great honor to be able to teach people what it can look like to love and image God to others, especially during more complex issues that we all encounter in this journey here on earth. Although I may be called on to be a counselor,  I am the one blessed by the faith of those I get to talk with! I am on honored to be a part of Redemption Gateway.

Gina Mendez

Counseling Admin
About Gina

I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart, Josh, since July 2000. We have 3 daughters, Elise, Abby, and Ila.  We moved to Arizona from the mid-west in 2007. Gateway has been my home church since the Second Mile plant began.

I grew up going to church but it was never anything I gave much thought to. I didn’t know what it meant to have a relationship with God. My early twenties were a mess, trying to do life with one foot in the world and one foot in the word and I was failing. At age 25 God revealed to me the depth of my sin and how much of a mess I was without him. No matter how good my intentions were I couldn’t choose God on my own and needed him to rescue me from myself and give me a heart for Him. I cried out to him in repentance and he changed me forever.  I sought out a mentor who poured her time and biblical wisdom into my life. Realizing that He had forgiven me and accepts me even before I have repented was huge for me. I started serving at church and building relationships and community. Gateway feels like home and family to me.

I am so excited for this new roll on staff. My administrative tasks will include coordinating counseling appointments and assisting the other admins and Pastors with various tasks.

Alessi DeBartolo

Community + Global Ministry Resident
About Alessi

Growing up in central Phoenix was never an issue when it came to church. My family attended Redemption Gilbert (formally East Valley Bible Church) for the past 15 plus years. I have always loved the Redemption family and it’s strong Biblical teachings. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always LOVED dresses; I have sweet memories of our family going up to say hi to Tom Shrader after church and he would ALWAYS tell me how much he loved my dress. I feel blessed and thankful to have grown up under his leadership, training, and teaching.

I am the oldest of three, and have two multi-talented brothers and an amazing, Godly mom and dad. I love to travel, discover new places, read, drink copious amounts of coffee, do makeup + lashes, spend time with family + friends, and learn more about our Divine Creator and His beautiful creation. After studying at Biola for undergrad, I took a job at a one-room, private school called Acton Academy Phoenix. While running and guiding the blended-learning, multi-aged, start up school, I began a Masters program through Wheaton College.

I am in awe and excited for the journey He is leading me on; I am thankful and honored to be apart of the Redemption Gateway team!

Joshua Ruiz

R/Students Pastor
About Joshua

I am a born and raised Arizona Native.  I come from a crazy blended family of 8 (3 brothers, 2 sisters).  I’ve lived most my life in the east valley, attending Red Mountain High School and graduating from Skyline High School in 2001. Immediately following high school I was employed at Empire Machinery (a Caterpillar Machinery Dealer) and until recently, have been there for 15 years.  I attended Southwestern Bible College in Phoenix AZ (now known as Arizona Christian University) for two years before changing gears after meeting my wonderful wife, Lauren Ruiz and marrying her January 22, 2005.  By God’s grace our marriage is hoppin’, resulting in our 4 crazy great kiddos: Aidyn, Isabel, Violet, and Nox.  We run pretty fast through our daily lives, not really leaving much possibility for a boring day in our home.  Group gatherings, good food, and good time spent together minister to our souls.

I grew up in a small Baptist church in Mesa where I came to the saving grace of Jesus Christ at a young age.  Growing up knowing the truth and goodness of God, I found myself in great distress in my late teens and early twenties as I struggled to live out what I swore so deeply to believe, sadly proving to have significantly weaker flesh than the Christians I considered true believers.  God’s grace however was much deeper than the depths of my sin, and learning that truth has brought me to greater love and worship of Him.  My life is His and I long to serve him until my dying breath.  Should it ever be said  that I am a passionate worshipper of God, it would have to hold true that the greatest sinners always make the greatest worshippers.  Its why I sing so loud!  To Christ be all glory!  I’ve had the privilege of serving God’s people in worship leading for over 15 years now, and look forward to many more.  I love the church, I love serving the body of Christ, and love serving in youth ministries!

Arnold Ruiz

Redemption Students High School Director
About Arnold

I am married to my fun, hard-working wife Ai and we have been blessed with four wonderful kids: Ava, Asher, Aila, and Alyosha. We enjoy food, family, laughing, and learning new things.

I grew up in church, but that did not save me from the solemn reality that we have all been sinned against and yet we ourselves sin against others. Indeed, left to myself, I have an incurable propensity to seek after my own good and my own desires at the expense of others, in direct rebellion of the One who created me to live otherwise.

But thanks be to God that He found me and rescued me from the grip of sin and death! By God’s wonderful grace I have found his son Jesus Christ to be beautiful, wise to the utmost, patient, profoundly loving, and powerful to save. So I look to him as my supreme authority. And my trust in him has not been misplaced. He is a friend to sinful people like me, a rock in times of trouble, a glad giver of wisdom to navigate a complicated world, and a source of incomparable joy. By nature I am rebellious, and I wrestle and struggle and fall and doubt. But he is ever merciful and faithful to me; he is my peace and my sanity.

I love to teach and to tell people about what Jesus Christ has done for me and how awesome he is. In my current phase of life, God shows me about himself most through my relationships as a husband and father, through my relationship to his body the church, and by observing in the world the futility of chasing after anything else but Christ. For nothing and nobody can thrill a heart like he can.

Patrick Buck

Creative Arts Pastoral Resident
About Patrick

My wife, Lynne and I are both Arizona natives and we currently live in Gilbert with our two pups, Mori and Zoey (65lbs and 6lbs respectively). Lynne graduated from Western Oregon University and is now a full-time freelance American Sign Language interpreter here in the Valley. I completed my undergrad at Arizona State and am currently working on my M.A. in Missional Theology at Missional Training Center, a satellite program of Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis. We love craft kitchens and specialty coffee (massive snobbery, yes), and if you’re thinking gift ideas, Lynne is a size 4.5 at Tiffany’s and I prefer a Single Malt from the Isaly region.

I was raised by parents who love and fear the Lord and made the local church a priority in our weekly rhythm. However while I would have claimed to be a Christian from a young age, it wasn’t until high school that I truly understood how desperately I needed grace. I realized that my soul longed for it’s identity to find rest in its Creator, not my Sunday school “straight A’s” (there were no grades- unless you asked me). Since then God has been daily shaping and forming me into Jesus’ image (my pride still puts up quite the fight) and I’ve been learning the joy of submitting to him as Teacher and Lord. My desire is for others to experience the present, transformative, life-giving reality of the Kingdom here and now and, by the grace and forgiveness of Jesus, join the redemptive mission of God as he works through his church to redeem and renew his Creation. If you see me, come say hi! I’d love to meet you.

The church’s witness among the nations is at heart the overflow of a gift.” – Lesslie Newbigin

I grew up in a Christian home and my mom was very dedicated to making sure my brothers and I were raised in church.  It wasn’t until I went away to college that I fully understood my daily need for Jesus.  Since then, Jesus continues to make himself bigger and bigger in my life.  I love spending time in the Word and am constantly amazed by God’s character and unchanging love for me.

I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Jeff, since 1993.  We have three wonderful children, Will, Jack and Caroline. They are all in our Student Ministry. I was blessed to grow up in Christian home where I became a believer as a child. God has been faithful to me in each stage of life. He especially grabbed a hold of me through a season of infertility Jeff and I went through. I am humbled He has chosen to love me so extravagantly and graciously, continually
shaping me into the image of His Son. I have always been passionate about teaching children. My degree is in Early Childhood Education and I taught school for 9 years before staying home with our children when our first was born.  After becoming a mom I became passionate about the godly call of motherhood and fellowship with other moms. I have previously served in kid’s ministries and mom’s ministries and joined Gateway Student Ministry as a mentor when we moved here in 2014 from New Mexico. In this role, I was also able to be a part of our NextGen and Student Ministry teams. God has given me a passion for the spiritual formation of students and helping them follow Jesus. I am eager to see the gospel impact students and for their faith grow through small groups in our ministry. I am honored to be a part of this vital ministry in the
lives and stories of students.

Jen Natzke

R/Kids Administrative Coordinator
About Jen

I have been married to Derek since February 2003. We have six kids together: Berlynn, Alana, Liam, Paisley, Charli, Roman. Their ages span from teenagers to preschool.  We love to be active and run lots of races and have fun at the gym.

I grew up in a family that was called Christian, however, grace and acceptance was very merit based. If I performed well, things would go well. I never wanted to be the one to underperform. My understanding of grace was limited to the one time sacrifice on the cross. Jesus died for my sins, but you better do your part.

Derek was Catholic when I married him which didn’t help my merit based concept of grace. Through many years of prayers Derek decided to step out of the Catholic Church and we happened upon Redemption. This began the transformation.

My understanding of grace is no longer limited to the past. I know see the grace in the future promises but also in every present moment. It is so reliving to know (and believe) that Christ’s one time sacrifice was enough. I am accepted and can stand before the Father because of HIS merit and not my own. The freedom that this brings is life changing and I never grow tired of seeing how God grows me in this every day.

About Laura

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Blaine, since February 2003. We have 6 crazy kids: Chelsey, Cheyanne, Shelby, Ben, Julianna, and Emmanuel, as well as 3 rambunctious grand kids (so far).

Even though I grew up going to a legalistic church where salvations always seemed on the line, I always suspected that God was much different than the way He was portrayed there. While I have called myself a Christian my whole life, it wasn’t until I was 24 that I fully surrendered my life to Jesus. A blessed series of events occurred surrounding the tragic death of my toddler nephew which led my entire family into a true relationship with Jesus. Since then, God has led me on a journey (sometimes with my cooperation and sometimes not) drawing me deeper in love and understanding of who He is and how perfect His plans are.

I am an educator at heart. I love teaching people of all ages, but kids are the most fun. Woven into my love of teaching God has planted a passion in my heart to fulfill the great commission to go and make disciples. I believe that the classrooms at Redemption Gateway are a mission field and I am blessed to be a part of the faith stories born and nurtured there.

I said yes to coffee with a random Starbucks barista I had a crush on named Jason. We got married 3 years later on April Fool’s Day, 2017. We’re both restaurant servers and love coffee (obviously).

In the 8th grade my parents forced me to join a middle school small group and I hated them for it. But I instantly felt welcome and loved. I became a Christian my freshman year of high school at a youth group winter camp and simultaneously fell in love with Jesus and the local church.

I love to make people feel welcome and comfortable through good communication and design.

My wife Rachel and I have been married since 2016. We have a daughter, Rosie Amelia, and a golden-doodle named Indie. We love to sing and play music, watch movies, hike, and travel together!

Over the years, I have been increasingly overwhelmed by the goodness of God. In my foolishness and sin, He freely offers mercy and forgiveness, and despite my unworthiness, He continues to bless me lavishly. The more I experience the love of Christ, the more I fall in love with Him. He continues to give me incredible grace and wisdom as I learn how to be a caring husband, a loving father, and a faithful leader. It’s been my joy to lead His people into the praise of His glorious grace, and I pray that He would ever increase our understanding and love for Him through music.

I have been a follower of Jesus since I was a young child. He continues to show himself to me in new ways. He shows me areas of sin in my life and graciously proves that He is mighty to save and that His blood is enough to cover me. He is continually teaching me that all my efforts to be “good enough” are in fact foolishness. He has given me His spirit and a desire to glorify Him.

I attended classes at The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio where I attained certification as a sound engineer. I enjoy recording music, running sound and expressing my creativity through music.

About Brian

I was born on a farm in rural Wisconsin where my family was very involved in the local church.  As in many personal stories, after leaving the area I grew up in, I slowly drifted from church and consequently my relationship with God suffered.  After moving to Arizona, I started attending church on a regular basis which began restore and grow my relationship with Jesus. Volunteering for some time, I was actually hired on as IT Director at the church I was attending.  Since being on staff for a couple of churches, I have run small businesses (including my own) for a number of years, with experience in IT to heavy equipment to commercial buildings.

I haven’t felt a real solid connection to a church for a while until a couple in my small group asked me to try Redemption Gateway with them.  After the first Sunday I was hooked, and began attending regularly. Gateway is home to me because of the incredible humbleness and authenticity of the leadership.  Anyone who has spent any amount of time with staff would have to admit what totally open, caring group of people we have here.

About Bruce

My wife, Julie, and I have been married for 35 years. We grew up in Gallup, New Mexico and have know each other for most of our lives. I was in the U.S. Air Force and started our married life in Grand Forks, North Dakota. After my military service, we moved to Arizona where I attended ASU and earned a business degree. We have three children, Eric, Corey and Emily. We were blessed to have Julie be a full-time mom and are now enjoying the empty-nest phase of life. Both Eric and Corey are ASU graduates, work in the valley and attend Redemption Gateway. Emily is a student at ASU and attends Redemption Tempe. Julie has returned to work as a bookkeeper at Gilbert Christian Schools and I am a Director of Supply Chain Management at Mayo Clinic and a Faculty Associate at ASU. I enjoy going on dates with my wife, traveling, going to the movies, and hiking.

When I was young, I attended a small church in New Mexico, knew the things of God and believed I knew God. In fact, when Julie and I were married, I believed I was a Christian based on the teachings of my childhood church. Julie was saved at a young age and she was a consistent role model of Christ, who faithfully walked beside me even as I became more selfish with my career.  In 1995, God used a good friend to open my eyes to the fact that I was living a selfish life blinded by my sins. I repented and began a life of following Jesus.

We talk at Gateway about the Christian walk as “plodding.” This word resonates with me and as I reflect on my own slow, steady walk through the joyful times along with the trials and tribulations as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Redemption Gateway is a place where people do not need to put on a false front to fit in. It is a place where people can expose their brokenness and come alongside each other with love and compassion. I regularly see God using the members of our church to help celebrate the victories in life and provide comfort during times of trouble.

Julie and I have been part of Gateway since the beginning and we are excited to see new faces every Sunday as our church grows and we reach more people. Our new building will provide great new spaces that will allow us to minister to even more people. We are making an impact in our community and I look forward to seeing how God will continue to use us well into the future!

About Bill

I met my wife, Donna, at Simpson University in San Francisco. We have been married for 51 years and have two children, Melissa and Martin. Melissa lives in Calgary, AB, Canada with her husband, Tim.  Martin is single and lives with us in San Tan Valley. He currently works at Target in Queen Creek, and is a cartoon artist and loves music, especially the music at Redemption Gateway! We also have three grandchildren; Keegan (25), Erin (22), and Corey (20). I am a retired courtesy shuttle driver for Henry Brown Buick GMC in Gilbert, AZ. I like to spend time with my family, travel, relax, and ponder the future.

I grew up in a conservative Christian home on a dairy farm outside of Alexandria, MN. My parents raised the five of us siblings on hard work, the Bible, prayer, Sunday school, and regular attendance at the local Baptist church. At age eight, I trusted Jesus as my savior during VBS in 1954. I had the privilege, along with my best friend at the time, to pray the “sinner’s prayer” with my father. It was a special time and I will never forget it.

I love the genuineness, love, servant hearts, compassion, generosity, vulnerability, friendliness, and concern that the people of Redemption Gateway has for the lost in our community. Most of all, I love that we all are committed to “All of Life is All for Jesus.” What excites me about Redemption Gateway’s future is that God has built outstanding ministries that He will continue to use into the future, He has given us a beautiful new facility to use for His glory here in Queen Creek and beyond, and He will bring more lost & searching people to Himself through the Spirit of Jesus’ love and grace.

I have been married to my wife, Linda, for 21 years. I am originally from New York City, and I am currently a small business owner of Arizona Signs & Printing. We have 3 sons, Noah (19), Caleb (16), and Luke (12). I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, golfing, fishing, and camping.

God saved me when I was in 8th grade. I was watching a television show about a man who died, had an after-life encounter, and was revived to life again. The story brought me to tears as I pondered the hopelessness of life simply ended after one’s last breath. On the other hand, if there was hope after life, what was the measure to know if I was good enough? God showed Himself as I learned about Him in school. I learned about God as creator, savior, and redeemer. I decided to put my trust in Him and by God’s grace, have continued to grow in Him.

I love that leadership and the people of Gateway love biblical truth and have a genuine heart to honor God. They do this in a number of different ways but what excites me the most about Gateway’s future is their heart to invest in others for God’s glory. From building a new campus for future generations and for the community, developing leaders to be sent out to reach the lost, supporting local and distant missionaries and organizations, and investing in the next generation to continue to share the good news of Jesus. The focus on others is exciting to see because God is glorified when we love others!

Being raised in a Christian home, I knew the stories and who Jesus was yet he didn’t invade my heart with the truth of the Gospel until my junior year of college. It is sobering when I knew my sin separated me from Jesus and I needed a savior. I am thankful He continues to grow me and reveal how wonderful He is to me.

About Robert

I married my wife, Cheri, in 2001. We are both Arizona natives, growing up in the Tempe area. We have two children, Ashley and James. I am currently a manager at SRP where I have worked for the past 19 years. I love hanging out with my family, learning new things, eating good food, watching the Arizona Coyotes hockey team, and sailing.

Raised in a Christian home, I knew the Gospel at a young age. While I considered myself a Christian, it wasn’t until I was an adult that I was confronted with the depths of my sin and how sin had separated me from God. With the weight of this realization, I spent weeks feeling broken and in need of a new life to mend the one I had corrupted. Jesus has been that life and has redefined my life apart from my old identity. As I continue to walk in the Lord, I am increasingly made aware that I need Jesus as much today, as I did when He first called me. His love and kindness fuels my affections to draw near and imitate the one in whose image I was created in.

Redemption Gateway has been a huge blessing to our family and our walk with the Lord. The people of Gateway truly reflect that “All of Life, is All for Jesus.” We have seen God visible in tangible and intangible ways. Through friendships, serving, and generosity, is undoubtedly a congregation that is marked by love of God and love for others. I have not experienced this before and it truly feels like a home away from home. I am overwhelmingly thankful for the love God has shown through his people here at Redemption Gateway.

There are many reasons that I am excited for the future of Redemption Gateway. I’m blessed and encouraged to see God working through the leadership, and what He has in store for them in the future. I look forward to having a new building with the space to welcome the unchurched members of our communities and be introduced to Jesus. I’m excited for the new leaders who have been developed and can’t wait to see them be sent out to share the Gospel with the nations. I’m hopeful about the future generations that are currently involved in our Student Ministry, and the impact that they will make for Christ. Thinking about the multitude of lives the individual ministries at Gateway have touched, I can’t help but think of how many more lives will be changed as we move into the next season. We are entering an exciting time here at Gateway, and I’m honored to be a part it!

About Michael

I have been married to my beautiful, talented wife, Nicole, for 26 years. We have been blessed with three children – Abigail, Joshua, and Hannah. I was born and raised in Southern California, and I am currently a Cloud Architect for Symantec. I love being with my family and doing life together. We enjoy traveling, the outdoors, singing and playing musical instruments. We also have a new puppy, Ainsley, whom Hannah is raising for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

I did not grow up in a church-going family but I met the Lord at a church youth camp at Pepperdine University when I was 17 years old. God revealed to me that I needed to stop running from Him and just accept and submit to Him. The path has not always been easy, but the journey has been more than worth it!

I really love the fact that the people at Gateway take Jesus seriously but not themselves. I also love that people here are willing to go the extra mile to serve others. I appreciate how we recognize that our relationship with the Lord and loving relationships with others requires an investment of time. I’m grateful that the congregation is willing to engage with the community as equals. We are a people who realize we have been given so much, and we are here to give to others in different ways. I am regularly inspired by the humility and love for people that our pastoral staff exhibits.

I am so excited to see how God is going to use us to impact the community of Queen Creek and the surrounding cities with His love, faithfulness, and goodness. I am excited about being a part of something that will have an impact on this city and state for generations to come. It’s a privilege to be a small part of  building a legacy of faithfulness to Jesus.

On Being a Local Congregation of Redemption Church

Redemption church is multi-congregational in structure. This means that a central governing body provides structure, direction, and support for the ministry of each local congregation. Local congregations, like Redemption Gateway, are united and collaborative, but each has its own leadership and is free to contextualize its efforts. Click on the link below to learn more about the overall structure of Redemption.

We are a non-denominational church with a Reformed view of salvation. We believe that all of life is all for Jesus. We have been saved by grace through faith, which is itself a gift. That gift empowers us to be a transformed people who embody His redemptive power and participate in the renewal of all things.

We are a sent people. As the church we are not called to turn inward and build our own kingdom. We are called to turn outward and give ourselves to the spread of the Gospel, the establishment of healthy local churches, and the multiplication of disciples. This is a call to invest beyond our church, beyond our tribe, and beyond our generation.

The Five Loves

Our goal is not merely to connect people, but to make disciples who are growing in what we call The Five Loves. This philosophy shapes every environment at Gateway.

Community and Global Initiatives

We strongly believe that all members of the body of Christ are sent people, called to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel to the world. Therefore our community and global efforts should never be limited to structured programs. However, in response to the needs in our community, and God's heart for the nations, we do build global partnerships and facilitate opportunities to participate in God's mission of blessing the nations in Christ.
