Cristina Adams has been a dynamite all-church admin for the last few years. Get to know Cristina better here:
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in San Jose, California. My parents made the brave decision to move the family from Mexico City, with the hopes of a better life.
What brought you to Arizona?
My parents sold their restaurant and retired to Arizona in 2003. It was important to my husband and I to have our kids grow up with their grandparents, and I missed them like crazy, so we moved to Queen Creek a year later. The rest of my siblings have made their way over too.
Tell us about your family.
I have known Clay, my husband, since high school, and we had several classes together. He and I started dating his senior year and we have been together since. We had a crazy beginning but I would not ask for anyone else to do life with! Clay is a “jack of all trades” from custom home building, framer, mechanic, salesman, rides both dirt and street bikes, street luge, and the list goes on. He is currently working as a salesman at a toy hauler/trailer dealership.
Our oldest son, Jacob, is 16 and a junior at Williamsfield HS. He is our creative son and enjoys the arts. Jacob is currently in marching band, on the yearbook committee, works at Coldstone, and has a busy school schedule. We see him on Sundays for a few hours, so we spend a lot of time catching up, eating, and playing card games. He also drives which is scary, but amazing!
Joshua is our baby. He is 13 years old and is an 8th grader at Cooley Middle School. He is our social bee and is friends with everyone. He loves big like Jesus and is very generous. Joshua will share lunch with friends if they forget theirs, or pay for their ticket to school dances so that they aren’t left out on the fun. There is not a time during the day he doesn’t give you a pat on the back, hug, or ask if he can help. He enjoys attending Student Ministry, watching and cheering on his LA Dodgers, always makes sure his outfits are on point, and that he has enough cologne to last him the day.
We also have a golden retriever dog, Willy, a cat, Frisco, and a saltwater fish tank.
What do you like to do for fun?
We enjoy watching movies/documentaries, attend baseball games, working out, camping, traveling, we love to eat all types of cuisines, being with family, and hanging out with our kids when they’re home. We are now getting a taste of what being an empty nester will be like. Our boys are getting older, busier, and not home as much. It’s like dating again and I am really treasuring this sweet time that we rushed through years ago.
What is your favorite part of your work at the church?
I really enjoy working with all the people on our staff. It’s refreshing to work with people who make you feel like family, encourage and challenge you, and point you back to Jesus. It helps me to be able to do the same when I am interacting with the congregation, volunteers and with my family.
What is the best book you’ve read in the last year?
I enjoy reading A Gospel Primer for Christians by Milton Vincent. It is my go to when I wake up in the morning so that my heart’s focus is ready for the day.
What excites you about the future of Gateway?
I am excited about our new church home and to be able to help people know Jesus. I know what it feels like to be lost and lonely, and I want to help people experience the love of Christ and the freedom that comes along with knowing Him.
